The EFCC arrested a man with spending N20 million that was mistakenly credited to his account.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended a young guy after he spent a portion of the large sum of money credited to his account by his employer.

According to the EFCC, on December 3rd, 2020, a young man identified as Haruna Samuel received a credit alert for over twenty million Naira, and knowing full well that he wasn’t expecting the money, he chose to utilize the money for himself rather than report the issue to his bank.

The EFCC stated on their page,

The EFCC’s Kaduna Zonal Command arraigned a serving airman, Lance Corporal Haruna Samuel of the Nigeria Air Force Base, Kaduna, before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court in Kaduna on a one-count allegation of theft and criminal misappropriation on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

The defendant was accused of receiving a credit alert for N 20, 014,300 (Twenty Million, Fourteen Thousand, Three Hundred Naira) into his bank account on December 3, 2020. The funds were wired from his employer’s account by mistake. Rather of disclosing the problem to his bank or employer, the defendant took a portion of the money for personal use, such as paying off debts.
