A man has been apprehended by the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly trying to rape his housemaid in Ifite, Awka, the state capital.
The 12-year-old girl who jumped from the storey building to avoid being molested by her boss reportedly fractured her leg.The incident happened on Thursday and the victim has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.A Facebook user, Mrs Ify Unachukwu, who shared the incident on her page, wrote, “A 12-year-old house help jumped down the window of a storey building to escape rape by her ‘Oga’.
She sustained fracture on her leg bone (tibia). Now, she has been moved from Climax Specialist Hospital, Awka, to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku. She is presently in a critical condition, after escaping.”Confirming the incident, the state police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect has been taken into custody.“The suspect is in our custody and investigation has begun please,” he added.
Meanwhile, an Akwa Ibom high court sitting in Ikot Ekpene has sentenced a 31-year-old man, Nsikak Joseph Udofia to death for armed robbery.Udofia was convicted by Justice Augustine Odokwo, after he was found guilty of robbery and rape.The convict, alongside others who are still at large had robbed a shoe mender Gabriel Akpan Victor, of his torchlight, two knives, a roll of black thread, two palm slippers and a cash sum of two thousand, three hundred and fifty Naira on his way home from work on 31st December, 2017.
