While traveling to Katsina State in July 2014, President Muhammadu Buhari narrowly escaped a bomb attack near the Kawo bridge in Kaduna state.Buhari spoke during the opening of the Kawo bridge, which was built by the Kaduna state government under the leadership of Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
He Said: ”There was an attempt to bomb me here…there was a market nearby.”
Buhari claims that his life was saved entirely due to his attentive security bodyguards. At the time, the bombing destroyed three of his convoy’s vehicles and injured three of his aides.
Buhari stated the following on the 23rd of July, 2014, when the incident occurred:
“At about 2:30 p.m. on my way to Daura, I was personally involved in a clearly targeted bomb strike near Ali Akilu Road, Kawo-Kaduna.””The terrible episode, which was clearly an assassination attempt, occurred when a fast-moving vehicle attempted to overtake my security car many times but was prevented by my escort vehicle.
“We arrived in Kawo’s market area, where he attempted to take advantage of our slowing down by ramming my car, then detonated the bomb, destroying all three vehicles in our convoy.”
“Unfortunately, when I exited my truck, I discovered many dead bodies strewn about.” They were ordinary folks going about their normal lives when they were targeted for mass murder.”Thank God for His kindness, I was unharmed, but three of my security guards had minor injuries and were treated and released from the hospital.”
