The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has shared his thought about resigning as the spiritual head of the renowned church.
Adeboye was a lecturer at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State before he was called to serve in the RCCG.The academician was admonished to take up the kingdom assignment by the founder of the church, Pastor Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi.
Adeboye while still holding to his lecturing job at the university, agreed to serve in the RCCG as an interpreter to Pastor Akindayomi who could only preach in the Yoruba Language.
However, later, in 1977, Akindayomi ordained Adeboye as a pastor. And subsequently, Adeboye became the General Overseer of the church in 1981 after the demise of Pastor Akindayomi. For this reason, Adeboye gave up his university job and launched into full-time preaching.Sharing his thought about resigning from the exalted position a few years ago, Adeboye said he wanted to opt out when he felt his members never cared about his labour as their leader.
While brooding over the matter, Adeboye said he took a nap, and when he woke up, a young girl who had come to see him and gave him a cake.According to the renowned preacher, he was touched by the child’s gesture after he received and ate the cake.“I thought you said no one cared.
“That was when I realized that I had paid so much attention to appreciation from the people that I did not remember how much God cares for and loves me,” Adeboye said.He added: “Now when as a believer you are feeling depressed, what you need is to go deep into the presence of God because Psalm 16:11 says:“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.”
