Obasanjo: Igbo Presidency, 2023

Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo has declared his support for an Igbo Presidency in 2023.

Obasanjo gave his support for an Igbo president while receiving a 2023 Presidential aspirant, Chief Mao Ohuabunwa in Abeokuta, on Thursday.

The former Head of State noted that the time was right for the total reconciliation of Nigeria, by supporting a president of Southeast extraction to emerge in 2023.

The former president said he also believes that there are a lot of things that South-easterners can bring to the table.

Obasanjo, who stated that there is a lot an Igbo president can offer the country said;

“Beyond bringing unity to Nigeria or being the cement that holds the country together, I believe that Southeasterners can model hard work and entrepreneurship. That will help in wealth creation and fight against poverty, which is ravaging Nigeria,” he said.

The elder statesman told the aspirant that contesting for the office of the president of Nigeria is a tough job, saying he looks forward to his vision of a united Nigeria coming to pass.

In his response, Ohuabunwa hailed Obasanjo as a president that showed the highest level of fairness and equity, who didn’t discriminate during his time in power.
